Linocut

Linocut is a great way to explore relief print making. As with all our courses the day is limited to just four people to ensure that you will get the best experience out of the day. The course will introduce you to the basic linocut techniques for single colour printing and will include:

  • A brief study of examples of linocut prints.
  • Exploration of range of marks that can be made using linocut tools.
  • Development of your design (up to 20cm x 15 cm in size)
  • Transfer of a design to Lino.
  • Use of linocut tools to carve your design
  • Techniques to ink up your linocut plate
  • Printing out your designs using a professional press

No previous experience required. All materials and lunch* will be provided. The course will be led by Lisa Hurcum and Hugh Davies. See photos from a previous linocut day course.

* Lunch will be vegetarian/pescatarian using locally sourced products where possible. Please advise us in advance of any specific dietary requirements.

An experimental workshop day exploring the basics of photochemical image making on paper through making images on light sensitive paper without a cameras and also with a simple lensless pinhole camera. by the end of the day you will take away photogram images on cyanotype paper a pinhole camera of your own and photographs taken with it.

Day Course

You will be on the course with a maximum of one other person to ensure that you will get the best experience out of the day. The course will introduce you to the basic  techniques for pinhole photography and photograms:

  • A brief study of examples of pinhole photographs and photograms
  • Preparation of cyanotype paper for photograms
  • Cyanotype exposure test strip
  • Creating and developing two A4 sized photograms with pre prepared cyanotype paper
  • Making a pinhole camera from a readymade container
  • Estimating exposure times
  • exposure test strips
  • taking photographs with your pinhole camera using positive photographic paper
  • processing your  photographs in the darkroom

Drypoint Printmaking at the Fisher Theatre | Sat 25th August

A printmaking workshop at the Fisher Theatre, Bungay  in conjunction with the paper-works* exhibition to be held at the theatre  from 23rds July to the 24th of August .

Drypoint printmaking is the most accessible form of intaglio printing.  The workshop will be held in the first floor gallery space. Access is available to the first floor by Lift. The day is limited to six people. We will introduce you to the basic drypoint techniques for single colour printing using drypoint plastic and paper drypoint plates. The day will include:

  • A brief study of examples of drypoint prints.
  • Introduction to the variety of materials that can be used as drypoint plates
  • Exploration of range of marks that can be made using drypoint tools.
  • Development of your design (at A6 size)
  • Use of drypoint tools to build up your design
  • Techniques to ink up your drypoint plate
  • Printing out your designs using a professional press

No previous experience required. All materials and lunch* will be provided. The course will be led by Lisa Hurcum and Hugh Davies.

Kitchen Litho

Kitchen Litho is an exciting alternative to traditional lithography techniques. It was developed and first described by a French artist, Emilie Aizier www.atelier-kitchen-print.org in 2011. The process uses readily available household products such as aluminium cooking foil and Coca Cola.  We will be encouraging lots of trial and error!.

Day Course

Suffolk Open Studios and Easterly Artists Trail

Suffolk open studios

Lisa Hurcum and Hugh Davies are opening up the paper-works studio as part of Suffolk Open Studios and the Easterly artists open studio trail.
